Sion's images displayed on novels
As a visual artist — but more so as a journalist and avid reader my whole life –the chance to have my images grace the covers of a few international books has been one of my favorite experiences. One of my ideal jobs would be to work closely with a publisher to create imagery to use for specific projects, to photograph something which makes the concept of a book come to life visually.

Lens on Life: Documenting Your World Through Photography
When photographer, author and entrepreneur Stephanie Roberts contacted me a few years back to have me be part of her second book, I could have never dreamed I would have an 8 page feature of my work inside. But even more amazing was that I would be sharing a chapter with some living legends of photography whose work I admire so deeply — including Elliott Erwitt, one of my street photography idols. To this day, it’s one of the achievements I’m proudest of in my career.

Marketa Irglova
Marketa Irglova’s speech after winning Best Original Song Oscar in 2008 for the movie “Once” — where she encouraged artistic dreams no matter how far-fetched they may seem– remains one of my biggest inspirations, along with her music. So it was fitting that I got to fulfill a dream of my own, of meeting and befriending her, and working on some visual art and promotional images for the first steps in her solo career (after former band The Swell Season went on a hiatus). When you get to work with another artist so luminous, creative and generous, your own work reflects that joy.
In addition to some concert posters, my images of Marketa were featured on the inserts of an album and EP.

My work featured in print
During my second year practicing photography and exploring in visual arts, I was one of four artists featured in American Photo Magazine, in what was one of the first mainstream media articles talking about the creative potential of mobile phones for photography. It was a pioneering moment that I felt really proud of. Throughout the years, other publications have followed, including Ibiza’s leading club publication, Ushuaïa IÜ MAG; the Dutch photo magazine GUP, New York City based Wink Magazine, and Chinese magazine Homeland.

IÜ MAG by USHUAÏA
In the summer of 2014, I was flown to Ibiza in Spain by IÜ MAG by Ushuaïa for a commissioned photo essay of life in the island at the end of the summer. For two days, I traveled to several destinations to photograph street characters and good slices of life.

In the beginning of 2009, Time Out New York‘s photo editor of the time discovered my work through Flickr and reached out to set up possible collaborations. A month later, I was shooting the cover and all the portraits for their summer “Singles” special issue. I repeated the job the following Valentine’s Day, and did a series of shoots with the magazine, both for print and web.
